NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Tufts University golf team sits fourth at the four-team New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament after one day of play at the Indian Hill Country Club on Saturday.
The Jumbos did not have one individual round in the 80s as their four-best scores totaled to 323 strokes. They are 11 strokes behind third-place Williams College (312). Amherst College leads the tournament with a 301 score and host Trinity College is second with a 303 score.
Junior Justin Feldman and senior Taylor Nordan both shot 80 for Tufts, while senior Aaron Corn came in at 81. Sophomore Brandon Karr was the fourth Jumbo scorer with an 82.
Head coach George Pendergast's Jumbos scored third at the NESCAC Qualifier on the same course back in the fall, marking the first time that Tufts was one of the four teams to advance to the conference championship since the qualifier was instituted in 2007. Prior to that, all of the league's golf teams played in the championship event.
Hamilton College's Joe Tigani, who qualified individually, leads the 23 players in the tournament with a one-under par 71.
Day two on Sunday tees off at 11 a.m. The teams will be playing for a berth into the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Greenboro, North Carolina May 15-18.
