Golf in 5th Place at NESCAC Qualifier After 1st Round

Sophomore Harry Theodore scored third for the Jumbos

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Tufts University golf team is in fifth place after one day at the 2018 NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Wesleyan University at the par-72 Lyman Orchards-Robert Trent Jones Course on Saturday.

The top four teams will advance to the 2019 NESCAC Championship next spring, with the winner of the Qualifier hosting the Championship.

Tufts is on the outside looking in right now after their four-best scores totaled to 304 strokes, five behind fourth-place Williams College (299). Trinity College leads at 291, Hamilton College is second (292) and Middlebury is third (293). The Jumbos will have to make up the five strokes on Sunday in order to make it to the conference championship.

The Jumbos were led on Saturday by freshman Mac Bredahl with a two-over 74, tied for 10th individually. Sophomore Henry Hughes scored second for the Jumbos at 75, tied for 14th. Also in the top 20 is sophomore Harry Theodore who scored 76. The fourth Tufts scorer was junior Brandon Karr (79).

Will Rosenfield from Trinity is the tournament leader after 18 holes with a three-under par 69.

Sunday's second round starts at 10:44 a.m.
