PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Tufts women's squash team won in positions three through nine, picking up a 7-2 win over Dickinson at Brown University on Tuesday afternoon. Five of the seven Jumbo wins came in just three games.
With the win the Jumbos improve to 5-4 overall this season. The loss snaps a five-match win streak for Dickinson, who is 5-2 after the setback.
Freshman Megan Chen won the first game in extra points and then the second 11-9 over Eloise Nimoityn in the third position. Nimoityn snuck in an 11-5 win in game three, but Chen picked up a point for the Jumbos with an 11-8 win in game four. Sophomore Rachel Windreich played a tight five game match with Nicole DeLuca in the sixth position. Windreich won the first game 12-10, but then fell in the second 11-0. Windreich won the third game 11-6, but then DeLuca came up with an 11-6 win in game four. Windreich picked up an 11-5 win in game five to win for the Jumbos.
Senior Zarena Jafy took on Aya Sobhy in the fourth position, and won 11-9, 11-2, 11-6. In the fifth position junior Catherine Shanahan earned a three-game win over Domencia Romo, 11-7, 11-3, 11-6. Freshman Diya Sanghi collected a three-game win over Carley Barton in the seventh position, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Sophomore Chloe Kantor faced off with Abbie Wingerd in the eighth position and allowed Wingerd to score just 12 points across three games, winning 11-4, 11-4, 11-4. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was senior co-captain Chista Irani who won in three games over Alanis Perez, 11-4, 11-5, 11-2.
Sophomore Julie Yeung battled in the second position with Courtney Trail. Trail won the first game in extra points, 16-14. Yeung came back and won the second and third games, 11-8 and 11-7. But, Trail took game four 11-9 and then took the deciding game five 11-6. In the first position, junior co-captain Claire Davidson fell in three games to Lindsay Kuracina.
The Jumbos take the courts again on Sunday when they travel to take on Franklin and Marshall at 10:30 am. Dickinson plays again Tuesday when they travel to Amherst for a 12 pm start.
