Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Wheaton on Saturday

NORTON – Tufts men's swimming and diving won 13 of 16 events, leading to a 200.5-77.5 win against Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon in their first meet of 2019.

Brandon Jinn won the 1,650 freestyle race

The Jumbos' 200 medley relay unit of freshman Nate Tingen, junior Matt Manfre, junior Roger Gu, and senior Kingsley Bowen started the day off by winning the event and clocking a 1:33.99.

Bowen recorded a team-high three first-place finishes. In addition to helping win the 200 medley relay, he won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.02 seconds and the 100 butterfly (51.76). Freshman Tar Tar Jarusinchai also picked up multiple victories in the 100 freestyle (season-best 47.39) and the 200 individual medley (1:55.90). Gu picked up a win in the 200 freestyle clocking a 1:43.36. 

The other Jumbo first-place finishes came from senior Brandon Jinn in the 1650 freestyle (16:46.56), sophomore Kuan Lin Lee in the 100 breastroke (1:00.49), sophomore Lomax Turner in the 200 butterfly (1:56.30), freshman Ethan Webster in the 200 backstroke (1:57.42), junior Alexander Burnam in the 200 breastroke (2:11.93), sophomore John Koster in the 500 freestyle (4:56.45) and sophomore Austin Pruitt in one-meter diving (245.63).

Tingen recorded multiple second-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (53.06) and the 200 individual medley (1:57.39). Sophomore Nathan Mitchell also had a good day as he placed second in the 100 backstroke (53.17). In the 100 freestyle, senior Ross Wood clocked a 49.19 for a second-place mark. Also coming in second-place in events were sophomore John LaLime in the 1,650 free (16:54.71), and juniors Trevor Serman in the 200 butterfly (1:58.56) and Costa Camerano in the 500 freestyle (22.38).

Tufts moved up to 3-2 with their victory today. The Wheaton Lyons are now 5-7 after finishing their home schedule with today's meet.

The Jumbos will next be in action tomorrow when they host Boston College at 12 pm. It's seniors day as the team salutes Bowen, Noah Cagley, Brian Honicky, Jinn, Adon Shapiro, Chris Simotas and Wood. Wheaton competes again on February 2 at WPI.
