Men's Swimming & Diving Break 4 Pool Records in Home Loss to Boston College Sunday

Chris Simotas was one of seven Jumbo seniors honored today

MEDFORD – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team broke four pool records during their 196-164 loss to Division I Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Pool.

Junior Roger Gu was part of three pool marks and as many victories to lead Tufts. The Jumbos won seven events overall.

The first new Hamilton Pool mark was set when senior tri-captain Kingsley Bowen, junior Matt Manfre, junior Costa Camerano and Gu combined on a 1:33.72 to win the 200 medley relay at the start of the meet.

Bowen added an individual win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.38 seconds. He was productive all day with a second-places in the 200 backstroke (1:54.09) and in the 100 individual medley (53.08) as well.

Sophomores John Koster and Dawson Stout staged a terrific battle in the 200 butterfly finishing first and second for the Jumbos, respectively. Koster won in a 1:57.67 time and Stout was just 0.04 behind with a 1:57.71 mark.

Gu posted the first pool record with his winning time of 20.30 seconds in the 50 freestyle. He did the same in the 100 freestyle in the very next event, winning with a 45.19 mark that is a new Hamilton Pool standard.

Lomax Turner continued his strong sophomore season by winning the 100 butterfly with a pool-record 51.51 finish. Earlier in the meet Turner posted a second-place swim of 23.47 in the 50 butterfly, a season-best.

Freshman Joseph Kim recorded Tufts' final victory in the 200 individual medley with a 1:57.91 touch.

The Jumbos had three of the top four times in the 1,000 meters early in the meet. Junior Tommy Gillespie's runner-up 9:58.92 time was 17 seconds faster than his previous season best.

Sophomore Tyler Tatro was the runner-up in the 500 freestyle (4:50.92) and then led off the 200 freestyle relay with Camerano, sophomore Noah Zhang and Gu that was second with a 1:25.36 time.

After the meet Tufts honored its seniors Bowen, Noah Cagley, Brian Honicky, Brandon Jinn, Adon Shapiro, Chris Simotas and Ross Wood.

The Jumbos swim a dual meet at local rival MIT next Friday night.
