CAMBRIDGE – Tufts women's swimming and diving was defeated 201-99 on Friday night against MIT.

The Jumbos got first-place finishes from sophomores Sook-Hee Evans in the 1,000 freestyle (10:49.70) and Sasha Fong in the 100 butterfly (57.87), as well as first-year Mary Hufziger in the 500 freestyle (5:16.43).
Tufts started the night finishing second in the 200 medley relay (1:47.82), where they swam unit of Fong, first-years Jeanette Khowong and Hannah Spencer, and sophomore Lily Kurtz. The brown and blue also got second-place finishes from Evans in the 500 freestyle (5:18.86), junior Grace Goetcheus in the 200 freestyle (1:57.96), sophomores Amber Chong in one-meter diving with a score of 280.34 and Abby Claus in the 400 yard individual medley, and the foursome of Fong, Spencer, first-year Anne Younger, senior Colleen Doolan (1:40.36) in the 200 freestyle relay.
The brown and blue got two third-place marks from sophomore Amy Socha in the 200 butterfly (2:12.32) and in the 100 yard butterfly (59.86). Other third-place finishes came from Doolan in the 200 freestyle (1:58.77), Khowong in the 100 backstroke (1:00.09), Goetcheus in the 200 backstroke (2:11.40), Kurtz in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.24), and sophomores Rhys Empey in the 1,000 freestyle (10:55.65) and Emma Seymour in the 500 freestyle (5:22.23).
MIT sophomore diver Deborah Wen broke the six-dive pool record (320.17) on the one-meter board and the No. 7 Engineers won 13 of 16 events.
The Jumbos next meet will be on February 8 when they compete in the BU Invitational at 6 pm. MIT will next be in action on February 2 against Amherst at 1 pm.
