WILLIAMSTOWN – The Tufts University women's swimming and diving team earned wins over Wesleyan and WPI while falling to Williams in their season-opening meet on Saturday hosted by Williams. Tufts fell to the Ephs by a 201.5 to 111.5 score while downing Wesleyan 255-57 and WPI 267-54.

The Jumbos foursome made up of senior tri-captain Grace Goetcheus, junior Sasha Fong, and freshman Katelin Isakoff and Hannah Lesser, won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.42) by .13 over another Tufts unit which consists of senior Brooke Bernstein, sophomores Hannah Spencer and Mary Hufziger, and freshman Camille Ross that had a 1:41.55 mark.
Fong raced to third in the 50-yard butterfly, completing the race in 26.60 which was the top time for the Jumbos. Classmate Amy Socha came in just behind Fong with a time of 26.71. Socha (58.37) also grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and swam (2:09.97) second in the 200-yard butterfly.
Isakoff, who made her collegiate debut, finished second in the 500-yard freestyle. Her finishing time was 5:09.14, just three seconds off Williams' Molly Craig. She also finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.68. Tufts sophomore Jeanette Khowong (28.40) finished second in the 50-yard backstroke. Lesser, who also made her collegiate debut, finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Abby Claus and freshman Chloe Deveney were the top Jumbo finishers in the 400-yard individual medley. Claus finished third with a time of 4:41.35. Deveney was not far behind as she finished at 4:43.56.
Freshman Claire Brennan and Hufziger were third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle led by Brenna's 1:56.78. that was .02 in front of her teammate. Hufziger (53.85) grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Junior Lily Kurtz and freshman Emma van Duijnhoven were first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke as they finished just .41 apart. Kurtz won in 2:33.15.
In the diving portion, freshmen Alaina Kosko and Sydney Ho were tops for Tufts in the 1-meter competition as they finished with scores of 252.00 and 246.46. They also led Tufts in the 3-meter dive as Kosko was second and Ho was fourth.
The Jumbos return to action on Sunday, November 24th, when they travel to Brandeis University. The meet is slated to start at 1 pm.
