CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team tallied 299 points on the first day of the MIT Winter Invitational Friday.

MIT (225), RPI (175), Keene State College (72), and Wheaton College (71) makeup the remaining four teams in the meet.
The Jumbos' A-relay team in the 800 yard free relay grabbed a second-place finish with an NCAA B-cut time of 6:45.25. The team consisted of sophomore Tar Tar Jarusinchai, senior Roger Gu, junior Tyler Tatro, and sophomore Nate Tingen. The B-relay team (6:58.24) finished fifth, just .23 out of fourth position. That unit was made up of senior Alexander Burnam and freshmen Dylan Brown, Peter LaBarge, and Andrew Hollett.
Junior John LaLime took the win in the 1650 yard free, finishing in 15:42.01 for an NCAA B-cut. That was just over 16 seconds faster than second place. Freshman Evan Szablewski earned a fourth-place finish in the event with a time of 16:26.40.
Freshman Joshua Balbi, Jarusinchai, and Tingen swept the podium in the 100 yard individual medley time trial. Balbi finished in 52.74 and had the fastest split of the race at 23.22 on the way down the pool. Jarusinchai had the fastest coming back at 27.94 for a total time of 53.06. Tingen was just .21 off Jarusinchai in third.
Freshmen Zach Lawrence and Kai Renshaw finished second and third in the 3-meter diving event, respectively. They had scores of 280.15 and 210.45.
The Jumbos will take their lead into Saturday which is day two of the MIT Winter Invitational. They will hit the pool at 10:30 am for the morning session followed by a 5:30 pm evening session.
