Men's Tennis Cruises Past Denison 8-1 in California on Monday Afternoon

CLAREMONT, Calif. – No. 22 Tufts Men's Tennis defeated No. 24 Denison 8-1 on Monday afternoon at the Biszantz Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Jumbos got multiple victories from sophomore Boris Sorkin, freshman Paris Pentousis and sophomore Carl-Herman Grant.

Carl-Herman Grant recorded victories in singles and doubles

With the victory, Tufts improves to 2-2 overall and have won their past two matches. Following the loss, Denison falls to 4-3 overall.

No. 1 nationally ranked Sorkin scored a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 victory over sophomore Vlad Rotnov in number one singles action. Sorkin also picked up a number doubles victory alongside junior Nathan Niemiec by an 8-5 margin.

The Jumbos won five of six singles matches in total. Pentousis competed in number two singles and defeated sophomore Mitchell Thai 6-3, 6-2. Freshmen Isaac Gorelik and Jack Moldenhauer, and Grant also recorded victories in straight sets in number four, five, and six singles respectively. Gorelik won 6-2, 6-4 over senior Kevin Brown, Moldenhauer picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory against sophomore Patrick McGuigan, and Grant collected a 6-0, 6-4 win against sophomore Brian Weisberg.

Sophomore Niko Hereford and Pentousis recorded an 8-3 win in number two doubles against Brown and Blake Burstein. Grant and junior Zach Shaff helped the Jumbos cap off a sweep in all three doubles matches with an 8-1 victory over Weisberg and McGuigan at #3.

The Big Red's lone win came from freshman Tim Clanciola as he defeated Tufts junior Ben Biswas 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in number three singles.  

Tufts' next match will be tomorrow against No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer at 1 pm. Denison plays again tomorrow at 1 pm against Sewanee, who the Jumbos defeated 6-3 on Sunday.
