Hughes' 73 Leads Golf on 1st Day at Wildcat Spring Invitational Saturday

Sophomore Harry Theodore was one of the four Jumbo scorers today.

CRANSTON, R.I.- Sophomore Henry Hughes shot one-over par 73 to lead the Tufts University golf team on the first day of the Wildcat Spring Invitational hosted by Johnson & Wales University at Cranston Country Club on Saturday.

Tufts' four best scores totaled to 312 strokes to put the Jumbos in a tie for sixth place out of 20 teams at the tournament. The Jumbos are tied with Roger Williams University. Both squads are two strokes behind fifth-place Springfield (310). They are two strokes ahead of Mass.-Dartmouth, Endicott and Salem Sate, who are tied for eighth with 314 strokes.

Amherst College leads the tournament after one day with a 297 team score.

Hughes' 73 is tied for second individually behind leader Cole Vissicchio from Amherst, who shot one-under 71 on Friday. Hunter DiLorenzo from host Johnson & Wales also shot 73.

Freshman Travis Clauson shot 79 for the Jumbos on Saturday. Also scoring for Tufts with 80s was senior co-captain Justin Feldman and sophomore Harry Theodore. Junior Brandon Karr is also with the Jumbos and finished with an 83 on Friday.

Day two of the tournament starts on Sunday at 10 am.
