Golf Tied for 3rd Place After Friday Play at RIC Spring Invitational

Travis Clauson was one of the four Jumbo scorers on Friday.

WARWICK, R.I. – On their first day of the 2019 spring season Friday, the Tufts University golf team is tied for third place out of 14 teams at the RIC Spring Invitational hosted by Rhode Island College at Valley Country Club.

On a cold day, Tufts' four best scores totaled to 313 strokes to tie with Endicott College. Johnson & Wales (310) and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (311) are first and second, respectively, heading into Sunday's second round. Tufts is five-up on fifth-place Western New England (318).

Senior Justin Feldman and sophomore Harry Theodore led the Jumbos with four-over par 76's on Friday. They are both tied for fourth individually. Junior Brandon Karr came in with a 79 and freshman Travis Clauson scored fourth for Tufts with an 82. Freshman Malcolm Herbert shot 84.

Stephen Mac Patch from Johnson & Wales leads the field with a two-over 74 after one day.

Round two on Saturday begins at 10 am.
