Golf 3rd After First Day of Detrick Invitational in Connecticut

Mac Bredahl scored third for the Jumbos on Saturday.

NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Tufts University golf team sits third out of 10 teams after one day at the 2019 Detrick Invitational played at Indian Country Club on Saturday.

Tufts' four top scorers combined for 299 strokes, three behind second-place and host Trinity College (296) and 11 back from tournament leader Babson (288). The brown and blue are one stroke ahead of fourth-place Amherst (300).

Five of the six Jumbos who played today shot 78 or better at the par 72 course. Sophomore Travis Clauson came in at even-par 72 and is tied for fourth individually. Senior co-captain Brandon Karr shot two-over 74 and is tied for ninth. Sophomore Mac Bredahl was the third lowest man for the Jumbos at four-over 76 (tied for 13th). The fourth and final Jumbo scorer was junior Henry Hughes at 77.

Junior Harry Theodore (78) and freshman Kemp Bassett (82) also played for the Jumbos today.

Babson's Jackson Rothwell leads the 59-man field with a two-under par 70.

Second-round play starts on Sunday at 11 am.
