Jumbo Golf Places 4th at Season-Opening Detrick Invitational

Brandon Karr was Tufts' low man for the weekend.

NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Tufts University golf team finished fourth out of 10 teams in their season-opening event at the Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College at Indian Hill Country Club on Sunday.

The Jumbos finished with a team total of 603 strokes over two rounds, 304 for their four-best scores today and 299 on Saturday. They were one stroke behind third-place Amherst College (300-302-602).

On Sunday, Tufts' four scorers were freshman Kemp Bassett with a 74, junior Harry Theodore at 76, senior co-captain Brandon Karr with a 77 and junior Henry Hughes also with a 77. Sophomore Mac Bredahl (78) and junior Travis Clauson (81) also played for the Jumbos.

For the tournament, Karr led Tufts with a 151 (74-77) which was 10th overall. The Jumbos also had Clauson at 72-81-153, Hughes (77-77-154), Theodore at 78-76-154 and Bredhal (76-78-154) all finished among the top 15 individually.

Babson College won the tournament by 15 strokes with a 581 total (288-293). Host Trinity College placed second (296-300-596).

Babson's Niko Gianelos was individual medalist with a tournament total of 144 (74-70), two strokes ahead of teammate Chris Bornhost (72-74-146).

The Jumbos play at the annual Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury College next weekend.
