CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Tufts University women's swimming and diving team dropped their first meet of the spring semester to Boston College, 266-110.
The top Jumbo 200 Yard Medley Relay group was the A-Relay team made up of sophomore Emma Donchi, junior Lily Kurtz, junior Sasha Fong, and sophomore Hannah Spencer. Their fourth place finish came in at 1:49.58. The B-Relay team finished at 1:50.46 which consisted of sophomore Anne Younger, freshman Elle Morse, freshman Camille Ross, and freshman Katelin Ulmer.
Freshman Allison Cremer, junior Emma Seymour, and junior Sook-hee Evans finished second, third, and fourth in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Cremer finished in 10:42.60 while Seymour and Evans finished with times of 10:46.52 and 10:53.48.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, freshman Claire Brennan was just .05 behind the first place finisher. Classmate Chloe Deveney finished seventh in the event with a time of 1:56.75. Senior Grace Goetcheus, Donci, and junior Jackie Crater were all within three seconds of first place as the trio finished third, fourth, and fifth in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Their times were 59.51, 1:00.60, and 1:01.89.
Kurtz and Ulmer earned fifth and sixth place finishes in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with times of 1:08.36 and 1:09.27. Freshman Katelin Isakoff and junior Abby Claus were second and third in the 200 Yard Butterfly as the duo finished at 2:07.96 and 2:08.29.
Fong finished fourth in the 50 Yard Butterfly as all five competitors finished withing one second of each other. Fong completed the event in 26.36. Ross was in fifth at 26.68. Freshman Hannah Lesser, Spencer, and senior Brooke Bernstein were fourth, fifth, and sixth in the 50 Yard Freestyle. They all finished within .20 of each other as Lesser finished at 25.05.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, sophomore Mary Hufziger finished in fifth place with a time of 54.15. Brennan was tied for sixth at 54.19. Claus grabbed a second place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:09.53. Donchi and Younger were fourth and fifth in the 50 Yard Backstroke with times of 28.29 and 28.55.
Goetcheus finished on the final step of the podium in the 200 Yard Breaststroke at 2:27.72. Morse, Kurtz, and Ulmer finished within one second of each other in the 50 Yard Breaststroke. The trio was second, third, and fourth as Morse finished at 31.44.
Isakoff earned the win in the 500 Yard Freestyle. She completed the event in 5:09.08. Deveney finished second with a time of 5:10.37. Ross continued her strong day as she finished fifth in the 100 Yard Butterfly. She finished at 59.37. Junior Katherine Sweetser finished sixth, just .50 off Ross.
Claus earned a third place finish in the 200 Yard IM as she finished at 2:13.77. Freshman Tory Atkinson was fourth at 2:15.63. Goetcheus was fourth in the 100 Yard IM and was just over one second off the winning pace at 1:01.11.
The A-Relay group for the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay finished second at 1:39.22. That group consisted of Hufziger, Goetcheus, Lesser, and junior Amy Socha. Claus, Spencer, Morse, and Younger made up the B-Relay which finished fourth at 1:40.56.
In the 1 meter dive, Freshman Alaina Kosko finished second place, just four points off the top score of 233.30. Classmate Sydney Ho earned a fifth place finish with a score of 204.30.
The Jumbos return to action on Saturday when they host Wheaton College at Hamilton Pool. They are slated to start at noon.
