CARLISLE, Pa. – In a match between closely-ranked teams, #19 Tufts University earned a decisive 7-2 victory at #20 Dickinson College in women's squash action on Saturday.
The Jumbos stopped a two-game losing streak and improved to 5-4 with the win, during which they scored six of their seven victories in straight sets. The Red Devils dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
Many of the Tufts wins came easily. Sophomore Megan Chen allowed just nine points to her opponent in an 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 win at #4. Freshman Abhilasha Bhasin had the same success with a trio of 11-3 scores for her win the ninth match. Jumbo sophomore Natalie Bartlett lost just 10 points in the eighth position (11-3, 11-5, 11-2).
Host Dickinson won its two matches in competitive fashion. At #1, Red Devil Courtney Trail came out of a 1-1 tie with two straight wins to defeat Jumbo senior co-captain Claire Davidson 11-4, 12-14, 11-9, 11-6. Doxey Loupassi won in three games at #6 against Tufts junior Chloe Kantor, but they were all tight scores (12-10, 11-9, 11-9).
Jumbo senior co-captain Catherine Shanahan worked hardest for her win in the third spot. She also was tied 1-1 before winning the third and fourth games of an 11-9, 1-11, 11-7, 11-5 final. Tufts junior Rachel Windreich had an 11-1 win sandwiched between 11-9 and 11-7 games for her victory in the eighth match.
Tufts will return to action a week from tomorrow (Jan. 26) when they host #13 Williams College at Harvard University. The Red Devils are back at it tomorrow hosting Virginia.
