MEDFORD – The Tufts University Women's Swimming and Diving team raced to a 169-114 win over Wheaton College in their home opener at Hamilton Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Jumbo A-relay team consisting of sophomore Emma Donchi and juniors Lily Kurtz, Sahsa Fong, and Amy Socha grabbed the top spot in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.14. The B-relay team for Tufts, finished third with a time of 1:51.97. Senior Brooke Bernstein, sophomore Anne Younger, and freshmen Liz Sutton and Camille Ross made up that group.
Freshman Katelin Isakoff cruised to a win in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle. She completed the event in 10:42.30. Classmate Allison Brea finished third with an 11:01.11. Junior Emily Mendelson's 11:13.96, earned her a fifth place finish.
The Jumbos swept the podium in the 200 Yard Freestyle as freshman Hannah Lesser led the way with a time of 2:00.41. Juniors Katherine Sweetser and Emma Seymour were not far behind as they finished with times of 2:01.29 and 2:01.48.
Junior Abby Claus finished the 100 Yard Backstroke as the competitor who was sub-1-minute. Her winning time was 59.64. Sophomore Mary Hufziger earned a third place finish at 1:01.30.
Tufts earned second, third, and fourth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke as senior Grace Goetcheus and freshmen Emma Van Duijnhoven and Elle Morse finished the event with times of 1:08.77, 1:10.33, and 1:10.54.
Junior Sook-hee Evans squeaked out a win in the 200 Yard Butterfly. She finished the event in 2:12.33 which was just .29 ahead of second place. Freshman Chloe Deveney finished third with a time of 2:14.30.
Freshman Katelin Ulmer earned the top spot in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Younger, Bernstein, Ross, sophomore Hannah Spencer, and Fong all finished within one second of Ulmer as the Jumbos captured first through sixth.
Isakoff earned her second event win of the day in the 100 Yard Freestyle. She finished with a time of 54.19 which was nearly a second over classmate Claire Brennan. Morse rounded out the podium for Tufts at 55.10.
Goetcheus and Donchi were first and second in the 200 Yard Backstroke. Goetcheus finished with a time of 2:09.21 while Donchi finished at 2:12.88.
Ulmer, Kurtz, and Freshman Liz Sutton finished the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:29.06, 2:30.44, and 2:35.93. Those were the top three times in the event. Hufziger, Socha, and senior Hannah Truslow all competed in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Hufziger had the top time at 5:14.57. Socha was third best with a time of 5:21.05. Truslow finished the event at 5:34.77.
Lesser and sophomore Juliette Bichon finished first and second in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Lesser finished at 1:00.38 while Bichon was nearly two seconds behind at 1:02.15. Claus and freshman Tory Atkinson finished the 400 Yard IM in 4:39.46 and 4:51.16.
In the 1 meter dive, freshman Sydney Ho and Alaina Kosko led the way with scores of 303.90 and 289.94. Junior Amber Chong was fourth with 269.47 points. Kosko earned the win in the 3 meter dive with a score of 326.63. Chong and Ho were third and fourth with 280.72 and 278.69 points each.
The Jumbos return to action next Saturday for their last home meet of the season. They host MIT with a 1pm start time.
