MEDFORD – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team fell to MIT as they wrapped up their home schedule on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Pool, 156-144.
The A-relay team for the Jumbos earned a third-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team consisted of juniors Sasha Fong and Lily Kurtz, sophomore Emma Donchi, and freshman Katelin Ulmer. They earned two points for Tufts with a time of 1:49.28. Junior Amy Socha, sophomore Anne Younger, and freshmen Elle Morse and Hannah Lesser made up the B-Relay which finished fourth at 1:51.93.
Junior Sook-hee Evans, freshman Allison Cremer, and freshman Allison Brea swept the podium in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Evans earned nine points with a time of 10:44.17. Cremer and Brea finished with times of 10:45.98 and 11:00.31.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, freshman Claire Brennan set a new pool record of 1:55.08. Sophomore Mary Hufziger was just .80 off the winning pace in second.
Senior Grace Goetcheus and Donchi were second and third in the 100 Yard Backstroke. They finished with times of 59.30 and 1:00.86, earning four and three points, respectively.
Kurtz completed the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:08.84, which was good for third place. Ulmer was fourth with a 1:09.66.
Freshman Katelin Isakoff was the first of three consecutive Jumbos in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Isakoff finished second while juniors Abby Claus and Amy Socha were third and fourth. Isakoff finished the event in 2:09.19 while Socha was at 2:09.60.
Freshman Elle Morse captured a pool record in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.28. Senior Brooke Bernstein was third at 24.77. Lesser was fifth, completing the event in 24.84.
Hufziger was .19 off the top spot in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Her time of 53.99 was good for second. Freshman Chloe Deveney finished fifth with a time of 55.11.
Claus, junior Jackie Crater, and Donchi were second, third, and fourth in the 200 Yard Backstroke. They finished with times of 2:08.04, 2:11.52, and 2:13.55.
In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Goetcheus earned a third place finish with a time of 2:27.88. Junior Emily Mendelson was fifth at 2:31.85. Freshman Liz Sutton was seventh in the event, completing it in 2:33.45.
Evans earned her second win on the day as she finished the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:13.24. Brennan was second in the event with a time of 5:17.84.
Socha grabbed the win in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Her time of 57.29 is a new pool record. Isakoff and freshman Camille Ross were third and fourth with times of 58.59 and 58.70.
Another pool record would fall in the 200 Yard IM as Goetcheus finished the event in 2:10.80. Claus was right behind in second with a time of 2:10.94. Deveney was sixth with a time of 2:14.29.
Younger, Lesser, Hufziger, and sophomore Hannah Spencer finished second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Bernstain, Socha, Ulmer, and Ross were third with a time of 1:39.71.
In the 1 meter dive, freshmen Alaina Kosko and Sydney Ho finished third and fourth with scores of 254.39 and 253.30. Junior Amber Chong was sixth with a score in 227.39. Kosko earned a second place finish in the 3 meter dive with a score of 290.03. Chong was sixth and Ho was seventh with scores of 236.76 and 227.85.
The Jumbos will head to Boston University for a two-day invitational on Friday, February 7th and Saturday, February 8.
