BOSTON, Mass. – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team traveled to Boston University for the Boston Winter Open in their final event before the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships.
MIT joins Tufts as other Division III programs while they are also competing against Division I schools, Boston College Boston University, Brown University, Fairfield University, and Iona College.
Junior Emma Seymour finished on the top step of the podium in the 500 Yard Freestyle, completing the event in 5:10.24. Freshmen Allison Brea and Liz Sutton rounded out the top three with times of 5:11.09 and 5:13.49.
Freshman Tory Atkinson earned a second place finish in the 200 Yard IM. She finished the event in 2:11.46. Classmate Bella Preneta was sixth with a time of 2:17.13.
Freshman Hannah Lesser completed the 50 Yard Freestyle in 24.55, which was good for third place. Sophomore Hannah Spencer finished fourth, just .09 off Lesser. Freshman Katelin Ulmer was sixth with a time of 24.81.
Ulmer, Lesser, Spencer, and junior Katherine Sweetser earned the win in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. They combined for a time of 3:36.00. Seymour, Brea, senior Hannah Truslow, and freshman Liz Sutton were in second place with a time of 3:40.00.
Freshman Alaina Kosko was the top Jumbo finisher in the 3 meter dive. Her score of 326.63 was good for fifth. Junior Amber Chong and freshman Sydney Ho were seventh and eighth with scores of 280.72 and 278.69.
The Jumbos return to action on the second day of the Boston Winter Open. The sessions start at 1:30pm and 7pm.
