Golf Wins Blazer Invitational With Clauson and Meehan as Medalists

Jack Meehan BELCHERTOWN - The Tufts University golf team won by 27 strokes and Jumbo teammates Travis Clauson and Jack Meehan (pictured) tied for medalist honors at the Blazer Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the par-71 Cold Spring Country Club.

Tufts finished with a 593 score following their four-best rounds totaling to 291 strokes on Saturday and 302 on Sunday. Amherst College was second (620) and Westfield State placed third (621). Fourteen teams competed overall.

The Jumbos' outstanding 291 score on Saturday was led by one-over par 72's from Clauson and Mac Bredahl, Kemp Bassett's 73 and a 74 by Meehan. On Sunday, Meehan led the Jumbos at 72 followed by Clauson (74), Bredahl (76) and Bassett (80).

Clauson and Meehan tied atop the leaderboard with 146 (+4) two-day totals. Bredahl's 148 (+6) was third, while Bassett came in a tie for fifth (153). Adam Schwimmer also played for Tufts and shot 76-81-157 to tie for 18th out of 69 total golfers.

The tournament was hosted by Elms College.

This was the final tournament of the fall season for the Jumbo Golf team. They also won the Jumbo Golf Day event last Saturday when Clauson fired the lowest round of 69.
