MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The 200 freestyle relay edged Williams College at the finish to highlight the Tufts women's swimming & diving team's effort at a tri-meet hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Katelin Ulmer, Abby Claus, Elle Morse and Mary Hufziger swam 1:35.70 in the 200 free relay to edge the Williams College foursome that had a 1:35.77 time.
Claus, Katelin Isakoff, Mary Laurita and Abby Miller also had top individual times as the Tufts team finished its fall semester at the tri-meet. In the team scoring, the Jumbos defeated the host Cardinals 271-47, but lost to the Ephs 204-117.
Isakoff, named the NESCAC Performer of the Week last Monday, swam 4:59.98 to win the 500 freestyle today. Tufts' other individual win at the meet came from junior diver Sydney Ho (pictured) in the one-meter competition (219.15).
Like Isakoff's 500 free, Claus' 4:28.14 in the 400 individual medley for third place, a 56.02 in the 100 butterfly by Laurita for second place and Miller's third-place 1:04.59 in the 100 breaststroke are all below the NCAA B cut.
Laurita also had a runner-up finish in the 50 butterfly of 25.63 seconds. Ulmer's 24.61 in the 50 freestyle and Hufziger's 1:52.90 in the 200 free were both second in those races. Claus had a runner-up swim in the 200 back (2:03.83) and freshman Valeria Strohmeier showed strong in the 200 butterfly with a second-place 2:06.80 mark.
