CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team is in first place out of five teams after one night at the MIT Winter Invitational on Friday.
Tufts had runner-up performances in the 800 freestyle relay and three-meter diving to help accumulate 229 team points. They are ahead of second-place RPI (162) with host MIT a close third (157).
The Jumbos opened the meet with a 6:42.42 swim by the 800 free relay of Ethan Schreier, Nate Tingen, Eric Lundgren and Victor Vollbrechthausen. They were two seconds off MIT's winning pace. Schreier's opening leg of 1:39.55 broke the Tufts school record previously held by Roger Gu from 2019 (1:39.75).
In three-meter diving, Zach Lawrence (pictured) posted a second-place score of 271.95. Tufts' Kai Renshaw scored fourth with a 231.25 mark.
Back in the pool, junior Evan Szablewski led the Jumbos in the 1,650 free with his 16:19.70 third-place time.
The meet resumes on Saturday with sessions at 10 AM and 6 PM.
