CAMBRIDGE - With victories in the 800 freestyle relay and 1,650 freestyle, the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team is in first place after one day at the MIT Winter Invitational.
The Jumbos totaled 240 points on Friday to lead the seven teams at the meet. Host MIT is second with a 226 score.
The Tufts foursome of Katelin Isakoff, Claire Brennan, Cierra McCarty and Mary Hufziger opened the competition with a time of 7:27.76 to win the 800 free relay. The mark was one second off the Jumbo record (7:26.71). The Jumbos also had the second-place relay (7:38.27) with Abby Claus, Chloe Deveney, Camille Ross and Jillian Cudney.
Sophomore Katie Shelburne (pictured) had the other Jumbo win tonight, touching over five seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 1,650 free with her 17:23.29 time.
Women's one-meter diving was also held this evening. Tufts' Alaina Kosko was fourth with a 247.00 score, followed by teammate Sydney Ho in fifth (244.05).
The meet picks up again starting tomorrow at 10 AM.
