CAMBRIDGE - Freshman Ethan Schreier broke the school record in the 200 butterfly for the Tufts men's swimming & diving team at the MIT Winter Invitational on Saturday.
Schreier first broke James McElduff's 1:49.31 Jumbo record (from the 2018 NESCAC meet) in the preliminaries on Saturday with a 1:48.88 mark. He then lowered the record to 1:48.29 with his first-place swim in the finals.
The second-place Jumbo 400 medley relay also featured Schreier in the third leg. He was joined by Nate Tingen, Emmett Adams and Peter LaBarge for a 3:19.35 time.
LaBarge was a winner on Saturday in the 50 freestyle, timing 20.61 seconds in the final. Freshman Eric Lundgren also won a race for Tufts with his time of 49.61 seconds touching first in the 100 backstroke. Tingen was second in the 100 back final (49.63). He had a 49.31 mark in the prelims. Zach Lawrence took first place in one-meter diving for Tufts with a 316.05 score.
Alex Gu, Soeren Euvrard, Tingen and LaBarge were second for the 200 freestyle relay at the start of Saturday's meet in a 1:21.97 time.
Freshman Brian Uribe cut over four seconds off his preliminary time in the 400 individual medley to place third in Saturday's finals with a 4:00.96 finish. Senior Victor Vollbrechthausen and Adams were fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:42.13) and 100 breaststroke (56.96), respectively.
The Jumbos are in second place out of five teams at the meet through two days. Their 925 score is behind only host MIT who is at 1,004.
The third and final day of the MIT Winter Invitational on Sunday begins with the morning session at 10 AM.
