CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team's 200 freestyle relay broke the school record twice on Saturday at the MIT Winter Invitaitonal.
The Jumbo foursome of Jillian Cudney, Katelin Ulmer, Elle Morse and Mary Hufziger swam 1:34.10 to win the preliminaries this morning. That was lower than the existing school record of 1:34.53 from 2020. The foursome then lowered the mark again in Saturday night's finals with a 1:33.5 winning time.
Tufts remained in first place at the meet after Saturday's events and have a 912 point total. Host MIT is a close second at the seven-team meet with an 878 score.
Cudney (pictured) also won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.77 seconds, just 0.12 off her school-record time. Hufziger was also second behind teammate Claire Brennan in the 200 freestyle, with Brennan winning in 1:50.84 and Hufziger just 0.08 behind in a 1:50.92 time.
Jumbos also went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly with Lara Wujciak winning in a 2:03.28 mark and Katelin Isakoff right behind (2:03.57).
Tufts had Saturday seconds by Abigail Miller in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.03) and senior Abby Claus in the 400 individual medley (4:28.85). Both had quicker times in the prelims of 1:04.85 and 4:28.29, respectively. Both were also part of Tufts' 400 medley relay that was the runner-up (3:50.38) as they teamed with Mary Laurita and Hufziger.
In the three-meter diving event, Alaina Kosko was fourth for the Jumbos scoring a 255.30. The 100 backstroke was also contested on Saturday with Tufts' Gaurika Singh placing fourth in the final with a 58.37 time.
Sunday is the final day of the MIT meet with the morning session beginning at 10 AM.
