WAYLAND – Trinity College edged Tufts University by two strokes in a golf tri-match hosted by the Jumbos on Saturday at Sandy Burr Country Club.
In tough weather conditions on the par-72 course, Trinity's best-four scores came in at 301 and the Jumbos totaled 303. Amherst College was a distant third (347).
Leading Tufts on Saturday was sophomore Kemp Bassett with a two-over par 74. He played second individually for the round. Also scoring for the Jumbos was junior Travis Clauson and senior co-captain Harry Theodore, who both came in at 76. Senior co-captain Alex Honigford and freshman Jack Meehan shot 77's.
Trinity's Blake Carrick had the low round of even-par 72, leading the Bantams to the victory. Max Edminster and Nicholas Li's 75's also helped the cause.
Amherst was led by Tommy Whitley with an 81 score.
Malcolm Herbert with a 79 and Adam Schwimmer (83) also played for Tufts.
Head Coach George Pendergast's Jumbos are scheduled to play Day 1 of the NESCAC Championship a week from Sunday (Apr. 25) at Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass.
