Women's Swimming & Diving Falls Just Short at MIT 168-132

BOSTON – In a competitive meet between two of the top 10 teams in the nation, the #5 Tufts University women's swimming & diving team was defeated by #9 MIT on Saturday afternoon by a score of 168-132.

Katie Shelburne earned a first-place victory in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:32.63. Allison Cremer was right behind her for the second-place finish with a time of 10:36.23.

In the 200 freestyle, Katelin Isakoff and Mary Hufziger finished in second and third respectively with Isakoff earning a time of 1:55.90 and Hufziger posting a 1:58.34 mark. Isakoff would go on to also finish second in the 100 butterfly as well with a time of 59.06.

Tufts got another first-place finisher with Abby Claus in the 200 butterfly as she finished with a time of 2:07.01. Lara Wujciak came in second for the Jumbos with a time of 2:07.38. Claus was also a part of the first-place 200 freestyle relay team (1:37.74) along with Jillian Cudney, Katelin Ulmer and Hufziger, as well as finishing in second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.18.

Ulmer was the next first-place finisher for Tufts, this time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.54. Cudney came in third in this event with a time of 24.76.

In the 100 freestyle, Claire Brennan (pictured) earned Tufts' fourth first-place finish with a time of 53.94. Brennan went on to win the Jumbos' fifth first-place finish as well in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.45. Hufziger finished in third place with a 500 free time of 5:18.30.

Ulmer and Abby Miller finished the 200 breaststroke in second and third place respectively with Ulmer finishing in 2:27.15 and Miller earning a time of 2:29.57.

In diving, Alaina Kosko won the one-meter diving event with a score of 291.08. She also had a good 268.80 mark in three-meter diving where she was fifth.

Sasha Fong's 2:08.97 mark in the 200 backstroke was a strong time for the Jumbos as well.

Next up, the Jumbos will host Hamilton College for Seniors Day on Sunday, January 30th at 12 pm.
