BREWSTER, MA (October 16, 2022) - The Tufts University men's golf team jumped five spots to finish in a tie for fourth place at the 87th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday.
This is the best finish at the NEIGA Tournament for the Jumbos since they also tied for fourth in 2016.
Tufts was in ninth place after Saturday's team round of 306. However, they cut 11 strokes off that score on Sunday with a four-best total of 295. Their 295 today was the third-best score out of the 23 teams.
Freshman
Holden Kittelberger shot a one-under par 71 on Sunday to lead the Jumbos. He birdied five holes today including the 18th to get under par for the day. Kittelberger's two-round 146 tied for seventh individually at the tournament.
Graduate student
Travis Clauson shot even-par 72 on Sunday, finishing with four birdies. Senior
Kemp Bassett came in at one-over 73 on Sunday, and junior
Jack Meehan was the fourth Tufts scorer with a 79 on Sunday.
Bassett's two-day 150 was tied for 23rd out of 115 total players. Clauson's tournament total was 152 and Meehan finished at 153. Sophomore
Eric Lancellotti also played for Tufts this weekend and shot 81 on Sunday and 163 for the tournament.
Babson College won the New England championship with a 579 team score. Middlebury College's Sean McGarrity was the medalist with a three-under 141 for the two rounds.
Today's action concluded the fall season for head coach
George Pendergast's Jumbos.
