PHILADELPHIA (November 20, 2022) -- The Tufts University women's squash squad battled with one of the best teams in the nation on Sunday, but couldn't come away with a victory as the No. 9 Quakers of the University of Pennsylvania topped the Jumbos 9-0 in action from the UPenn Squash Courts.
At the top of the ladder, first-year Vharsha Dinesh played a spirited match at No. 1 against Avni Anand, taking the second set 7-11 but falling in four games with scores of 11-3, 7-11, 11-4 and 11-8. At No. 2
Riddhi Joshi dropped a three-set match to Jana Dweek 11-6, 11-5 and 11-1, while
Nieve Monderer fell to Ashley Manning at No. 3 11-6, 11-4 and 11-5.
At No. 4 singles,
Aleezah Burhan played well, taking the opening set 11-9 but couldn't hold off Natasha Pensler as the UPenn player earned a 9-11, 11-5, 11-9 and 11-3 win. At No. 5,
Caroline Chin battled and played a tough match against Eujung Park, but fell in three games 17-15, 11-7 and 11-9.
Senior
Isa Schneider fell to Penelope Oh at No. 6 with scores of 11-6, 11-5 and 11-9, while Emma Wolf of UPenn bested Tuft's
Sanjana Vissapragada in the best match of the day 11-8, 11-9, 7-11 and 11-9 at No. 7.
Ellyn Xu dropped a 11-2, 11-2 and 11-6 decision at No. 8 to Grace Lavin, and
Ami Sao was topped by Emma Carter 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5 at the No. 9 spot.
The Jumbos (1-1) will be off until December 2 at 4 p.m., hosting St. Lawrence University in the Tufts Squash Center.
