MEDFORD, MA (December 2, 2022) -- Sophomore
Nieve Monderer got things going with a win at No. 3, and the No. 12 Tufts University women's squash team didn't let up in earning an 8-1 win over visiting No. 20 St. Lawrence University in the home opener in action from the Tufts Squash Center Friday evening.
Monderer opened the action with a three-game victory over Sanna Koivumaki, earning the win with scores of 11-4, 11-9 and 11-6. Things would continue to roll for the Jumbos, as
Sanjana Vissapragadad knocked off Ulrikke Ribesen at No. 6 singles 11-2, 11-3 and 11-6.
Kate Chang also helped Tufts take a 3-0 match lead as she earned a 11-4, 11-4 and 11-5 win over Meg Pruett at the No. 9 spot.
Sophomore
Riddhi Joshi defeated Anannya Morey 11-6, 11-8 and 11-4 at No. 2, and
Aleezah Burhan knocked off Petra DeRose 11-7, 11-3 and 11-4 at No. 5 for her second win of the season.
Ami Sao had a tight battle at No. 7, as she fought off a rally by Margaret Fleischner to pick up an 11-8, 11-13, 11-5, 11-7 win.
Ellyn Xu also had no problems at No. 8, coasting to a straight game win of 11-5, 11-7 and 11-6.
Caroline Chin was another three-game victor for the Jumbos, as she picked up an 11-4, 11-9 and 11-6 win to move to 2-1 on the campaign. The final match of the day was at No. 1, and St. Lawrence's Abhisheka David was able to knock off first-year
Vharsha Dinesh 8-11, 11-7, 12-10 and 11-9 in a tightly contested affair.
The Jumbos (2-1) will not have long to rest, as they welcome in the No. 10 Big Green of Dartmouth College on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in a big early season match-up for the Jumbos in Tufts Squash Center in Medford, MA.
