CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 3, 2022) -- The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team finished day two at the MIT Winter Invitational in second place, highlighted by a fantastic day in the pool for the Jumbos Saturday.
In the finals on Saturday night, the women's squad started action in the 200 yard freestyle relay and the "A" relay of senior
Katelin Ulmer, first-year
Isa Chambers, first-year
Lily Klinginsmith and senior
Elle Morse swam to a "B" cut time of 1:34.26 for second-place just behind the MIT "A" squad.

Katharine Skelly took fourth place with a 1:36.01. In the 200 yard butterfly, sophomore
Lara Wujciak earned the victory with a "B" cut time of 2:02.09, just missing the school record of 2:01.77. Isakoff was right behind her with a "B" cut time of 2:03.24 in second place, while
Esme Blackstock was sixth with a 2:07.51.
Valeria Strohmeier also made the "A" final in the 200 butterfly, taking 10th after swimming a 2:09.93.
In the "B" final in the 200 butterfly, first-year Jade Foltenyi chalked up the victory after swimming a 2:08.84, and Bella Prenata earned points for the Jumbos with a 15th place finish with a time of 2:16.16.
The 200 yard freestyle was next and Klinginsmith tallied a "B" cut time of 1:50.11 as she picked up the victory, out touching Brennan and her "B" cut time of 1:50.81. Both times were better than the 2022 Invited Time in the event from last year's 2022 NCAA Championships. First-year
Madeleine Dunn followed up her school record in the mile Friday with a fifth-place finish in the "A" final, recording a 1:53.36.
Junior
Sahar Mumtaz and
Isa Chambers also both made the "A" final for the Jumbos, as Mumtaz was sixth with a time of 1:53.72 and Chambers touched the wall in 1:58.97 for 10th place. Senior
Allison Cremer earned 11 points for Tufts in the "B" final, finishing second in the race and 12th overall with a 1:56.94. Junior
Chesnie Cheung added a 1:57.61 for a fourth-place finish in the "B" final, taking 14th overall.
The 100 yard breaststroke was up next for Tufts and the Jumbos had four swimmers earn spots in the "A" final. First-year
Quinci Wheeler was right behind the school record of 1:04.01 after touching the wall in 1:04.79 for third place, while Ulmer was just behind her in fourth place after recording a time of 1:05.06. Morse was fifth in the "A" final after posting a time of 1:05.93, and Abigail Miller was ninth overall for 14 points after swimming a 1:07.54.
In the 100 yard breaststroke "B" final,
Marissa Chow was third in the race and 13th overall with a time of 1:06.08, while
Emma Claus (1:07.96), Emma Van Duijnhoven (1:08.03),
Avery Newcomer (1:08.41) and
Liz Sutton (1:09.67) all earned points as they rounded out the "B" final.
The 100 backstroke saw sophomore
Gaurika Singh take fourth place after swimming a 57.66 in the "A" final, and Wujciak was ninth after swimming a 59.59. Junior
Elise Fong was 13th overall with a time of 59.65, third in the "B" final to pick up nine points for the Jumbos.
The 400 IM was next and Tufts racked up the points with four swimmers in the top five of the "A" final. Senior
Tory Atkinson posted a time of 4:31.28 to take runner-up in the "A" final, and classmate
Chloe Deveney was third after touching the wall in 4:32.62. Sophomore
Cierra McCarty was fourth right behind Deveney with a 4:32.75, and first-year
Maddie Hagberg earned 18 points with 4:37.21 after taking fifth place overall.
The 50 yard freestyle saw Ulmer earn runner-up honors after charging to a time of 23.65, while Morse earned 19 points in fourth place of the "A" final with a 23.98. Chambers and
Jillian Cudney went 6-7 in the "A" final after swimming to times of 24.23 and 23.32, respectively, and Skelly was ninth wit a time of 24.82. Cheung was third in the "B" final, while
Hannah Lesser took 14th overall and fourth in the "B" final with a 24.62.
The 400 medley relay closed out the night and Tufts "A" relay of Hagberg, Wheeler, Klinginsmith and Brennan swam a "B" cut time while besting the 2022 Invited Time after recording a 3:50.02 for second place. The "B" relay was fourth overall with a 3:53.85, thanks to the efforts of Singh, Ulmer, Isakoff and Cudney.
The Jumbos finished the second day of action with 908 points, right on the heels of host MIT and its 944.5 points. The third and final day at the MIT Winter Invitational starts Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
