WATERVILLE, Maine - The Tufts University 400 medley relay broke the school record in the final event of Friday's competition at the 2022 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships held at Colby College.
The Jumbo foursome of Nate Tingen, Emmett Adams (pictured), Ethan Schreier and Peter LaBarge swam a runner-up time of 3:16.08 in the 400 medley relay finals. That erased the previous Tufts record of 3:16.43 from 2019, and was an NCAA B cut.
Tufts is second in team scoring after Friday's events, with a 688.5 total. They are behind first-place Williams College (887) and ahead of third-place Bowdoin (443). Eleven teams overall are at the meet.
Tufts had started the evening with a second place in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome of Soeren Euvrard, Tingen, Victor Vollbrechthausen and LaBarge put together a 1:21.13 time. It's an NCAA B mark.
LaBarge was later the runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a finish of 20.18 seconds in the final. Euvrard was fourth in 20.57, which like LaBarge's mark was an NCAA B cut. Tufts had four in the top 11 for the event.
Tingen led another strong group showing for Tufts in the 50 backstroke, where his 22.40 was fourth. Joshua Balbi soon followed him in 22.85 for seventh. The Jumbos had four in the top 10 for the event.
Tufts had their three divers all make Friday night's finals in the one-meter event. Zach Lawrence placed fourth overall (445.10), Kai Renshaw was fifth (403.90) and Ethan Cobos finished eighth (364.45).
Adams secured an All-Conference spot by placing third in the 50 breaststroke early Friday evening in a 25.73 time. Luke Isayiw took seventh in the race at 25.97 seconds.
Balbi was Tufts' top finisher and 11th overall in the 50 butterfly (22.64). In the 200 individual medley, Schreier was eighth (1:53.97). Evan Szablewski's 4:33.92 led the Jumbos in the 500 freestyle for 11th place overall.
Saturday's action has preliminaries beginning at 10 AM and the finals taking place at 5:50 PM.
