BOSTON – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team competed in the Boston Winter Open on Friday night at Boston University. The two-day event serves as a shave and taper meet for non-conference swimmers and divers.
Along with Tufts and BU, Bates, Boston College, Brown, Holy Cross, MIT and Northeastern had competitors at the meet.
In the 200-yard individual medley race, junior Tory Atkinson (pictured) and freshman Emma Claus finished in second and third place respectively. Atkinson finished with an excellent time of 2:05.90 and Claus finished the race with a time of 2:09.43. Anne Younger also had a good night in the 50 freestyle (24.44), and Allison Brea swam 5:13.19 to lead Tufts in the 500 free. The Jumbos' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sora Sohn, Chesnie Cheung, Atkinson and Bella Preneta finished in second place with a time of 3:35.46.
In the three-meter diving event, Alaina Kosko earend a 290.75 score.
Multiple Jumbos competed in time trials, including Liana Wiepert whose 100-yard backstroke mark of 59.59 was impressive. In the 50-yard backstroke time trial Younger finished with a time of 26.96 seconds.
The Jumbos will compete on the second day of the Boston Winter Open on Saturday, with sessions at 10 am and 6 pm.
