INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman Ethan Schreier posted an All-American finish in the 200 butterfly to lead the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team on the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships Friday.
Schreier, who broke the school record in the event during the 2021-22 season with a 1:48.29 time, reset the record twice today. He was eighth in the preliminaries with a 1:48.08 time to get into the final. Then in the championship race, he moved up to seventh place with a 1:47.34 mark. It's the first individual All-American honor (top eight) for the team at the 2022 meet and for Schreier in his career.
Junior Zach Lawrence earned his second honorable mention All-American finish in diving this week on Friday as well. Today he had been 16th in the one-meter preliminaries to take the last qualifying spot for the finals with a 417.40 score. He then improved his finish four spots in the final by earning 12th place with a 415.95 score. Lawrence was also 16th in the three-meter diving final on Wednesday.
Also on Friday, senior Nate Tingen finished 15th in the 100 backstroke (48.41). It's the third honorable mention All-American award (places 9 through 16) for Tingen at the meet, including the first individually. He has four career honorable mention All-American finishes in NCAA competition now.
The Jumbos just missed scoring and another honorable mention All-American recognition in the 800 freestyle relay. The foursome of Schreier, Tingen, Victor Vollbrechthausen and Eric Lundgren put together a 6:42.05 finish that was 17th. A 6:42.01 by Ithaca College took 16th place.
