INDIANAPOLIS - Tufts University freshman Eric Lundgren broke the school record and earned All-American honors in the 200 backstroke on the final day of the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday.
Lundgren's 1:46.04 time was seventh in the championship final. The mark erased the four-year old previous Jumbo record of 1:46.12 owned by Kingsley Bowen since 2018. The seventh-place finish for All-America (top eight) by Lundgren matches Tufts' best finish at the 2022 NCAA meet.
Junior Peter LaBarge earned an honorable mention All-American accolade on Saturday with a 15th-place finish in the 100 freestyle (44.96). He finished the meet with three honorable mention All-American performances, tied for most on the team with Nate Tingen.
The Jumbos just missed qualifying for the 400 freestyle relay final on Friday. LaBarge, Soeren Euvrard, Ethan Schreier and Victor Vollbrechthausen combined on a 3:00.68 time. The finish was just 0.22 behind the 3:00.46 mark that took 16th place by Pomona-Pitzer.
Tingen also had a top 20 national placement in the 200 backstroke with his 1:48.56 time in today's preliminaries for 18th place.
Eight Jumbos overall earned All-American or honorable mention All-American honors this week: Emmett Adams, Euvrard, LaBarge, Zach Lawrence, Lundgren, Schreier, Tingen and Vollbrechthausen.
The Jumbos finished in a tie for 21st place, scoring 49 team points during the four-day meet. The 2022 NCAA Championships were held at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
