INDIANAPOLIS - The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team placed seventh at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships, which finished up on Saturday. It's the best national finish for the Jumbos since the team was sixth in 1982.
In the final race of the meet, Tufts' 400 freestyle relay took fourth place tonight with a 3:23.74 time. That earned All-American awards (top eight) for the foursome of Jillian Cudney, Claire Brennan, Katelin Isakoff and Mary Hufziger.
Also on Saturday Tufts had three honorable mention All-American performances (places 9-16). Brennan was 10th in the 100 freestyle (50.85), Abby Claus raced to a 10th-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:00.75) and Katie Shelburne touched 11th in the 1,650 freestyle (17:20.53).
The Jumbos also had national top 20 finishes by Sahar Mumtaz and Allison Cremer in the 1,650 free, with 17:29.89 and 17:33.70 times, respectively.
The 2022 NCAA Championships will go down in history for the Jumbos. They won two national titles - Brennan in the 200 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay of Isakoff, Claus, Brennan and Hufziger - on back-to-back nights Thursday and Friday.
Tufts finished with 200 team points to take seventh place.
Ten Jumbos earned All-American and honorable mention All-American awards at the meet - Brennan, Claus, Cudney, Hufziger, Isakoff, Mary Laurita, Abby Miller, Shelburne, Katelin Ulmer and Lara Wujciak.
At the conclusion of the meet, Tufts' Adam Hoyt was named Co-Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III Women's Swimming. He shares the honor with Jess Book from Kenyon College.
The 2022 NCAA Championships were held at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
