Tufts Golf 5th at Williams Invitational After Day 1

WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts golf team sits fifth out of nine teams at the Wiliams Spring Invitational being played at the par-71 Taconic Golf Club. The Jumbos' 309 best-four score is 17 strokes off the lead following the first day of play Saturday.

Host Williams College leads with a 292 score, followed by Middlebury College (294), Trinity College (300), Hamilton College (305) and Tufts.

Travis Clauson led the Jumbos with a four-over 75 on Saturday. Kemp Bassett and Ben Blase both shot six-over 77's. Clauson is tied for 11th individually, while Bassett and Blase are among a group tied for 16th. Jack Meehan and Adam Schwimmer both came in with 80s on Saturday.

Middlebury's KJ Dieker and Trinity's Jack Godin both shot even-par 71 on Saturday to tie for first place individually. A total of 57 players finished Saturday's round.

The second round of the Williams Spring Invitational will be played on Sunday starting at 1 pm.
