Golf Places 2nd at Trinity Tournament On Tie-Breaker

BERLIN, Conn. - Four Jumbos shot in the 70s on Sunday as the Tufts University men's golf team finished second out of 10 teams at the Bill Detrick Invitational played at Timberlin Golf Club. Tufts and host Trinity were tied at 621 strokes through two days and 36 holes, but the Bantams won on a fifth-player tie-breaker (79-80).

The Jumbos entered the day tied for second place, two storkes behind the lead after their four best scores from Saturday totaled to 315. Today they shot 306 as a team for a 621 total. Trinity, which had two teams in the tournament, had one squad also finish at 315-306-621. The other Trinity team was third overall at 313-322-625.

Jack Meehan (pictured) led the Jumbos today with a 73, the lowest score in the tournmament field on Sunday. He was followed by 77's from both Ben Blase and Adam Schwimmer for the Jumbos. Tufts' fourth scorer on Sunday was Travis Clauson with a 79.

Blase tied for second individually with a 152 tournament total, which included Saturday's 75. Meehan (80-73-153) was fourth indiviidually and Schwimmer placed 10th with a 156 score (79-77). Clauson tied for 17th (160), whille Kemp Bassett was 27th (164) and Malcolm Herbert finished 36th (169). There were 58 players in the tournament.

Trinity's Benjamin Boyd won medalist honors with a 151 tournament total. He shot 74 today after a 77 on Saturday.
