MEDFORD, MA (November 21, 2023) - Three Tufts University players have earned spots on the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The Jumbos receiving the honor are seniors
Thalia Greenberg,
Olivia Patz and
Nicola Sommers. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be an All-Conference caliber player with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started at least two-thirds of the team's contests.
Greenberg (economics and sociology double major) at midfield, Patz (psychology) on defense and Sommers (economics) at forward helped head coach
Martha Whiting's Tufts team earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament "Final Four" coming up on November 30 in Virginia. The Jumbos are 11-5-4 overall. Greenberg and Patz were All-Conference choices, and Sommers is a key offensive contributor to the team.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
