Rafae Shafi broke school records while competing for the Jumbo men's swimming & diving team at the MIT Winter Invitational on Friday evening.
Shafi swam 15:29.61 in the 1650 freestyle tonight, smashing the previous Tufts record of 15:38.87 set by John LaLime in 2020. The Jumbos also had a sub-16 minute time in the event of 15:58.49 by freshman
Dan Godino, placing him third all-time. During the 1650 Shafi also had a 9:20.68 time for 1000 yards that set a new record, erasing LaLime's former time of 9:22.89 from 2020.
Adams, one of 10 Jumbos who swam a 100 individual medley time trial tonight, submitted a mark of 50.62 seconds for a record. The previous standard was by Tar Tar Jarusinchai with a 51.72 time in 2020.
Junior
Eric Lundgren at a 51.61 time, senior
Tim Chou at 52.30 seconds and sophomore
Armaan Sikka at 53.18 seconds were all under 54 seconds for the 100 IM.
For the 800 freestyle relay tonight, Tufts' top team had a 6:41.77 time that ranks seventh in program history and cleared the NCAA B cut (6:43.15). The Jumbo foursome was junior

Eli Houlton and Lundgren.
Senior
Bora Calis had a 2:04.38 time in a 200 breaststroke time trial.
Tonight's events did not include team scoring. The meet continues tomorrow with 10 AM and 6 PM sessions.
