CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 2, 2023) – Junior
Charlie Duffy broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke and Jumbos won three events to help Tufts University Men's Swimming & Diving lead the team competition at the MIT Winter Invitational following Saturday's action.
Duffy touched in 55.56 seconds to place second in the 100 breaststroke at the meet, but it's first all-time at Tufts surpassing the previous mark of 55.61 set by teammate
Emmett Adams last year. Adams was also under his old school record today with a 55.60 mark in the final. Freshman
Jack Nussbaum posted a 56.55 in the finals that placed him in Tufts' top 10.
At the end of the meet, Tufts swam the second-fastest 400 medley relay in school history with a 3:14.96 mark for first place at the meet. Junior

Peter LaBarge combined on the time, which was well below the NCAA standard of 3:18.82.
The Jumbos accumulated 956 team points today and lead host MIT who has a 781 team score. Third-place RPI was at 532 team points following Saturday.
Tufts started Saturday night's finals with a 1:21.52 time in the 200 freestyle relay for second place. An NCAA B qualifier (1:21.98), the time is eighth all-time at Tufts. The Jumbo team was junior
Soeren Euvrard, Adams, Duffy and LaBarge.
Later in the meet, LaBarge was under 20 seconds in the 50 freestyle with a 19.95 mark in the final for second place and an NCAA B cut (20.43). In the 200 freestyle today freshman
Rafae Shafi became tied for fourth all-time at Tufts with his 1:39.76 preliminary mark. He wasn't quite as fast in the final (1:40.23), but took second place.
Schreier and Lundgren were the winners of both the prelims and finals in the 200 butterfly and 100 backstroke, respectively. Schreier posted marks of 1:48.37 and 1:48.26, and Lundgren swam 48.61 and 48.71 times. Both are NCAA B qualifiers with their performances. Schreier also had a PR in the 100 back (50.17), while freshman
Oliver Grossman placed himself into the Jumbo Top 10 with a 49.74 100 backstroke mark.
Freshmen divers
Jay Wilkinson and
Elias Brandt were outstanding in their first collegiate 11-dive programs. In the one-meter competition, Wilkinson's 466.75 score was second in the competition and placed him #5 at Tufts. Brandt compiled a 431.35 score that was fourth in the event and #8 for the Jumbos all-time.
Sophomore
Nate Pfeffer added a fourth-place finish for the Jumbos in the 400 individual medley with his 4:05.01 time.
On Sunday the preliminaries begin at 10 AM and the finals will commence at 6 PM on the final day of the meet.
