MEDFORD, MA (December 20, 2023) - Six Tufts University players were announced as 2023 Academic All-District® Football Team members today, as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Senior linebacker
EJ Comerford, senior defensive back Victor Garza, graduate student offensive lineman
Blair Horning, senior defensive lineman
Ed Iuteri, junior quarterback
Michael Berluti and junior wide receiver
Cade Moore are the Jumbos to receive the honor.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be an All-Conference caliber player who is a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started at least two-thirds of the team's contests.
Comerford (economics), Garza (biology) and Iuteri (economics) were leaders of a Jumbo defense that was first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) this fall allowing just 250.8 yards per game. Berluti (economics), Horning (mechanical engineering) and Moore (economics) were key players on Tufts' offense which was second in the league averaging 31.1 points and 420.4 yards per contest. The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024.
