MIDDLETOWN, CT (December 9, 2023) – The Tufts University men's swimming and diving team edged rival Williams College at a quad-meet today hosted by Wesleyan University. The Jumbos scored 687 points and the Ephs finished at 676.
In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America national poll, Williams was ranked 15
th and Tufts was 17
th. WPI was the third-place team today (265) and host Wesleyan was fourth (144).
The Jumbos started the day with an exciting win in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of
Eric Lundgren,
Emmett Adams,
Armaan Sikka and
Charlie Duffy combined on a 1:29.52 time that edged second-place Williams (1:29.79).
Tufts would later win the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:01.71 mark put together by
Soeren Euvrard,
Ethan Schreier,
Peter LaBarge and Sikka. Tufts took the top two spots in that race, with
Oliver Grossman, Adams,
Eli Houlton and Lundgren finishing second with a 3:02.30 time.

Jay Wilkinson both won twice individually today. In the freestyle sprints, LaBarge swam a 20.61 50 and a 45.28 100 for his victories. Wilkinson's 335.10 score won off the one-meter board and was a facility record, then his 292.30 was best in the three-meter event.
The Jumbos had numerous other victories throughout the day. Adams swam 25.48 to win the 50 breaststroke, Euvrard was first in the 100 butterfly at 49.09 seconds, Lundgren won the 200 backstroke with a 1:48.19 mark and Schreier was on top with a 1:49.21 time in the 200 butterfly.
Though the Jumbos did not win the 200 freestyle relay, they placed second and third. Grossman, Houlton,
Josh Schultz and LaBarge were the runner-up (1:23.54), and Euvrard,
Will Kaminski,
Jan Springer and Duffy took third (1:23.78).
Tufts had five of the top six finishers in the 50 butterfly led by Euvrard in second place with a time of 22.54 seconds. They also took the second through fifth spots in the 200 breaststroke where
Jack Nussbaum was the runner-up in a 2:03.61 finish.
Lundgren was second in the 50 backstroke (23.09), and in the 400 individual medley where his 4:05.35 touch was 0.02 behind the winner from Williams. Houlton in the 200 free (1:41.29), Duffy in the 100 breast (55.77) and
Jack Madden in the 100 back (50.63) also had second-place swims for the Brown & Blue.
In the diving events,
Elias Brandt was second in the one-meter contest with a 266.30 score and
Jeremy Lawrence scored third in three-meter with a 283.35 total.
This was the final action of the first semester for Tufts. They will return to the pool at home against Bates College on January 26.
