MIDDLETOWN, CT (December 9, 2023) – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team placed second out of four teams at the Wesleyan University quad meet including Williams College and WPI on Saturday.
The Jumbos accumulated 562 team points, trailing Williams College who had a 767 team score. Host Wesleyan was third with a 247 score and WPI finished fourth at 204.
Tufts won four events with
Madeleine Dunn taking the 500 freestyle (4:57.34),
Elena Harrison winning the 50 backstroke (26.51),
Jillian Cudney fastest in the 100 freestyle (52.16) and
Malia Leung scoring best in three-meter diving (255.65).
The Jumbos were the runner-up in three relays today. Starting the meet with the 200 medley relay, the team of Harrison,
Quinci Wheeler,
Jade Foltenyi and Cudney had a 1:44.06 time. For the 200 free relay, Cudney,
Emma Claus,
Isa Chambers and
Sydney Stasz combined on a 1:35.04 mark. Then in the 400 free relay Wheeler, Claus, Stasz and Cudney recorded a 3:30.05 finish.
Harrison, Dunn and Leung each added runner-up finishes to their victories. Harrison swam the 100 backstroke in 57.36 seconds, Dunn had her second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.27) and Leung was second-best in the one-meter diving competition with a 237.15 score.
Nika Renshaw was right behind Leung in three-meter diving with a second-place score of 228.05.
Third-place efforts for Tufts came from Claus in the 50 freestyle timing 24.35 seconds and Wheeler in the 100 breaststroke which she finished in 1:04.46. Wheeler was also fourth in the 50 breaststroke (29.45), while Cudney also added a fourth with her 25.81 time in the 50 butterfly.
This was the last event of the first semester for Tufts. Their next meet is January 26 at home against Bates College.
