GREENSBORO, NC (March 15, 2023) - With 12 Jumbos in action on the first day of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday, Tufts University compiled 69.5 points and is in fifth place overall.
Head coach
Adam Hoyt's team broke two records, had four individuals earn All-American awards (top eight) and three take honorable mention All-American honors (places nine through 16).
Making her NCAA debut today, Tufts first-year
Lily Klinginsmith was third in the 200 IM final to earn All-American honors with a school-record time of 2:00.73. She broke her own mark (2:00.95) from the conference meet. Jumbos
Cierra McCarty (2:10.13),
Lara Wujciak (2:11.69) and
Maddie Hagberg (2:13.41) also swam in the preliminaries of the event this morning.
The Jumbos also broke the school record in the 200 medley relay during the prelims on Wednesday morning. The foursome of Klinginsmith,
Quinci Wheeler,
Jade Foltenyi and
Katelin Ulmer timed 1:42.44, improving their mark from NESCAC's (1:42.71). They came back in the evening and timed 1:42.48 for sixth place in the final, earning each of them All-American accolades.
Tufts had three swimmers place among the top 16 in the 50 freestyle final.
Katelin Ulmer achieved All-American status with an eighth-place time of 23.58 seconds. Earning honorable mention All-American awards were
Elle Morse in 10th (23.39) and
Jillian Cudney 16th (23.60).
First-year
Madeleine Dunn won the consolation final in the first NCAA event of her career with a 4:55.53 time in the final. Tufts had three in the event with senior
Katelin Isakoff finishing 27th (5:02.76) and junior
Sahar Mumtaz 31st (5:04.36).
On Thursday the Jumbos will compete in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay. The meet continues through Saturday.
