GREENSBORO, NC (March 17, 2023) - Sophomore
Ethan Schreier had a strong fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly to highlight the Tufts men's swimming & diving team's third day at the NCAA Championships on Friday.
Schreier's fifth joined teammate
Peter LaBarge who was fifth in the 50 freestyle earlier this week as Tufts' best individual finishes at NCAA's since Roger Gu was second in the 100 free on the final day of the 2019 Nationals. Today Schreier got into the final with a 1:47.35 prelim and then was fifth with a 1:47.50 final for an All-American award (top eight). He was seventh nationally in the event last year.
Right along with Schreier's high finish today was the performance of classmate
Eric Lundgren in the 100 backstroke. He broke his own school record in the final with a time of 47.45 seconds for eighth place and All-American recognition. The Jumbos also had freshman
Jack Madden in the 100 back prelims (49.24) where he earned 21st place.
In a timed 800 freestyle relay final on Friday, the Jumbos swam a 6:41.65 in the morning that ended up 12th overall. The honorable mention All-American team was Schreier, freshman
Armaan Sikka, freshman
Nate Pfeffer and Lundgren.
These performances scored 35 team points for the Jumbos, who jumped into the top 10 at the NCAA meet in ninth place with a 100.5 three-day score.
Sophomore
Emmett Adams was in the 100 breaststroke today as well and had a 55.85 finish that was 28th in the preliminaries.
On the final day of the meet Saturday, Tufts has seven entries combined in the 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay.
