BERLIN, CT (April 16, 2023) - The Tufts University golf team finished second out of 10 teams at Trinity College's Bill Detrick Invitational played at Timberlin Golf Club this weekend.
In Sunday's second round, the Jumbos' four-best scores totaled to 300 strokes after they scored 296 on Saturday. Their two-day total of 596 was behind only the host Bantams' top team which finished at 583.
Tufts was led on Sunday by senior
Kemp Bassett, who shot an even-par 72 which tied for the third lowest round of the day. After a birdie on 10, Bassett finished his round with eight straight pars.
The Jumbos also had a 74 from junior
Jack Meehan, a 76 by freshman
Holden Kittelberger and a 78 by
Travis Clauson on Sunday.
For the tournament, Bassett was fourth overall with a two-over 146 in his two rounds. Kittelberger had a tournament score of 149 for seventh place. Meehan (150) tied for eighth and Clauson (151) tied for 10th out of the 52 total golfers.
Sophomore
Sean Rone was Tufts' fifth golfer over the weekend and his 80 on Sunday gave him a tournament total of 162.
Trinity's Jack Godin shot three-under 69 today and won the tournament with a two-under 142. Tufts finished three strokes ahead of a second Trinity team (599), while the rest of the field was more than 20 strokes behind.
Tufts will play a final tune-up prior to the NESCAC Championship at Williams College next weekend.
