WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (April 22, 2023) – In a precursor to the NESCAC Championship coming up next weekend, the Tufts University golf team faced other conference competition on Saturday at the Williams College Spring Invitational and placed fourth out of nine. Sunday's second round was canceled due to rain and Saturday's results were final.
Playing at the par-71 Taconic Golf Club, the Jumbos' four-best scores on Saturday totaled to 309 strokes. They finished behind first-place Hamilton College (302), Middlebury College (305) and Amherst College (306). Tufts was in front of fifth-place host Williams College (315) and sixth-place Trinity College (316).
Jumbo fifth-year
Travis Clauson was the second-best individual on Saturday with a two-over 73. Only Hamilton's Ramon Aroca Gonzalez came in lower at 72. Clauson birdied his first two holes and three of his first five and shot even-par 35 on the front nine before going two over coming in.
A 76 by Tufts junior
Jack Meehan was second for Tufts and tied for sixth out of the 57 golfers who played. Freshman
Holden Kittelberger had an eagle three on the 10th hole and finished at 78. Junior
Toby Rudolph was Tufts' fourth scorer at 82.
Senior
Kemp Bassett and sophomore
Sean Rone also played for the Jumbos today and each shot 83.
The Jumbos will play at the 2023 NESCAC Championship next weekend (Apr. 29-30) at Martindale Country Club in Auburn, Maine.
