AUBURN, ME (April 29, 2023) - Jumbos
Travis Clauson and
Jack Meehan are both tied for the individual lead, and the Tufts University golf team is second after one round of the 2023 NESCAC Championship on Saturday.
The Jumbos' best-four scores totaled to 298 strokes, nine behind one-day leader Middlebury College (289). Third-place Amherst College is three back of the Jumbos in the 10-team tourney with a 301 team score. Play is being held at the par-71 Martindale Country Club.
Both Clauson and Meehan shot even-par 71s on Saturday, tying them with Amherst's Steven Chen atop the field of 50 golfers. Clauson shot two-under for the front nine and was still at that mark until two late bogies. Meehan parred 16 of 18 holes today, with only a birdie and bogie on the 10th and 12th, respectively.
Holden Kittelberger scored third for Tufts, shooting one-over on the back nine to come in at a +5 76. He is in a tie for 14th place.
Kemp Bassett was the fourth Jumbo scorer with an 80.
Toby Rudolph shot 81 for Tufts today.
Tufts' Sunday round will begin at 11:20 am. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
