MEDFORD, MA (August 16, 2023) -- The Tufts University football coaching staff grew recently in anticipation of the upcoming 2023 campaign, as head coach
Jay Civetti announced the hiring of
Coby Tippett to assist with the cornerbacks this season.
"We are excited to add Coby to the staff, with a vast playing and coaching experience both in college and at the professional level, he will help our program," said Civetti. "He comes from a strong local high school program, Xaverian Brothers in Westwood, and his family has deep ties to the New England area, specially his NFL Hall of Fame father, Andre, a proud New England Patriots Hall of Fame member."
Tippett joins the coaching staff in the fall of 2023 after a stellar career on the gridiron at the University of Rhode Island and Towson University.
As a defensive back at URI, Tippett was a First Team All-CAA performer at punt returner, also earning Third Team at safety. He was a 2021 CAA Football Chuck Boone Leadership Award finalist, and was also selected as a 2020 All-CAA Second Teamer and 2019 All-CAA Third Team performer while at Towson. On two occasions, Tippett was tabbed as a CAA Player of the Week.
Prior to his time at Rhode Island and Towson, Tippett played prep at Cheshire Academy, where he led the Cats to an 8-2 record and the NEPSAC Wayne Sanborn Bowl title game. He was named as a Class A All-New England Team. He also attended Xavarian Brothers High School, where he was the ESPNBoston Mr. Football honoree in 2015. He led the Hawks to back-to-back MIAA Division I state titles. His father Andre Tippett was a standout for the New England Patriots, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2008.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Tufts Football and working alongside some of the finest coaches in the industry," said Tippett. "Coach Civetti and his coaching staff are truly inspiring, and I can't wait to be apart of this journey."
