MEDFORD, MA (January 26, 2024) – Sophomore
Armaan Sikka won two individual events and was part of a relay win to help the 13th-ranked Tufts University men's swimming & diving team take a 205-91 victory over Bates College tonight at Hamilton Pool.
Competing officially for the first time since December 9, the Jumbos won 12 of the 16 events.
Sikka was part of the 200 medley relay with junior
Eric Lundgren, freshman
Jack Nussbaum, and graduate student
Peter LaBarge. They swam 1:32.65 to win tonight.
Tufts then received a strong 9:40.61 first-place time in the 1000 freestyle from freshman
Rafae Shafi. Jumbo junior
Ethan Schreier won the 200 freestyle next in 1:41.99, and freshman
Oliver Grossman followed with a 23.62 to win the 50 backstroke.
Bates posted its first win by Marrich Somridhivej in the 50 breaststroke with a 26.43 time. He would later win the 100 breast (58.40).
Junior
Emmett Adams submitted a 50.72 for first in the 100 butterfly, which led into to another 50 freestyle victory by LaBarge with a time of 20.80 seconds. Sikka then earned his first individual win in the 100 free, a 46.49 touch. Lundgren added to this string of victories by veterans with a 49.81 mark in the 100 backstroke.
After the second Bates win by Somridhivej,
Dan Godino returned the Jumbos to the winner's circle in the 500 freestyle race with a 4:41.86 time. Sikka then added his third win with a 50 butterfly time of 22.91 seconds.
The diving events featured lead scores by Jumbo sophomore
Jeremy Lawrence in the one-meter event (260.62) and from freshman
Elias Brandt in the three-meter contest. Brandt's 286.88 score placed him among Tufts' all-time top 10.
Bates' John Weigel had first-place points for the 200 individual medley (1:56.90), while the Bobcats were also first in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:25.51.
Tufts will be in action again tomorrow when they travel to face neighboring rival and #4 ranked MIT. It's a 1:00 pm start.
